Project Overview

  • Aquip were approached to assist a West Australian client, within the Water Industry, understand the working condition of their pipeline.
  • The 5.8km long pipeline was experiencing pressure drop, leak & deposit issues including hot tapping.
  • Both Aquip and the client worked together to create a detailed timeline for the project application, sourced all required pipeline drawings and put a deployment and retrieval plan in place to ensure that the process ran effectively, with no delays.
  • We met the client onsite and deployed our INGU Pipers® – an operating system for pipeline integrity with multi-sensor surveys.
  • Our team were onsite with the client throughout the process and assisted with the retrieval of the Pipers®

Project Challenges

  • The pipeline was deeply submerged under roads, as well as residential and commercial properties.
  • There was also a time constraint due to an early major maintenance shutdown.
  • Our client required the data urgently so they could determine the areas to dig during this maintenance shutdown.

Project Results

  • We were able to complete the project prior to the timeline due date.
  • The survey report was issued to the client within 14 days of retrieval of the pipers.
  • With this valuable data information, the client was able to understand their pipeline health condition.
  • Our INGU Pipers® were able to find various pieces of information including:
    • A change in pipeline material from steel to PVC
    • Leak locations to determine where the maintenance team were to dig and repair
    • Pressure drop & valve locations
